MIAMI, Fla. (Feb. 24, 2019) – Rutgers softball dropped its FIU Panther Invitational finale on Sunday to Monmouth, 8-0, in five innings at Florida International's Felsberg Field.
 
Senior shortstop Jess Hughes recorded her 200^th career hit in the fifth inning on an infield single. The senior has a .350 career batting average and marked the milestone in her 572^nd at-bat. Hughes batted .438 (7-for-16) at the FIU Panther Invitational in Miami.
 
Senior Nicolette Anico reached 100 career hits in the bottom of the first inning on a double to the right centerfield gap. It was the first of two doubles on the day for Anico, who went 2-for-3 out of the two-hole.
 
Junior first baseman Nicole Bowman and senior outfielder Adriana Burcar added hits for the Scarlet Knights.
 
The Hawks jumped on Rutgers pitching for three runs in each the first and second innings, and another two in the fourth to invoke the eight-run rule.
 
The Scarlet Knights make a pit stop at the University of Virginia for a Thursday, Feb, 28 date at 5 p.m. before continuing on to Lynchburg, Virginia for the Liberty Spring Classic against Robert Morris, Quinnipiac, Sacred Heart, Cleveland State and the host Flames.
