CHARLOTTESVILLE & LYNCHBURG, Va. (Feb. 27, 2019) - Rutgers softball makes a pit stop at the University of Virginia on Thursday, Feb. 28 at 5 p.m. before continuing on to the Liberty Softball Classic from Friday through Sunday, March 1-3 for games against Robert Morris, Quinnipiac, Sacred Heart, Cleveland State and the host Flames.
Rutgers recently added a sixth game at the Liberty Softball Classic, an additional contest against Robert Morris to be played on Sunday, March 3 at noon.
The Scarlet Knights seek to avenge a pair of close losses to Liberty from earlier this season at the Texas A&M Invitational by scores of 2-1 and 5-3. Rutgers leads the all-time series against Virginia, Quinnipiac and Cleveland State, while slightly trailing Robert Morris. RU faces Sacred Heart for the first time in program history.

• RU currently ranks tied for second in the Big Ten with 16 home runs.

Jess Hughes picked up her 200th career hit in her 572nd at-bat on Sunday against Monmouth and is now one of 24 active players with 200 career hits.She is ranked fifth among the NCAA Division I softball active leaders in career walks drawn with 123. She also ranks seventh with 169 career runs scored. The New Jersey native has a career on-base percentage of .471.
• Junior outfielder
Anyssa Iliopoulos ranks 20th in the nation with her six doubles and 30th with 18 RBIs. Of her 13 hits this season, all but three of them have gone for extra bases while ranking seventh in the Big Ten with 31 total bases.

Katie Wingert has three home runs and eight RBIs with team's third highest OPS at .816, and second baseman

Nicolette Anico recorded her 100th career hit on Sunday against Monmouth.
• First-year head coach
Kristen Butler won her first game at the helm of the Scarlet Knights on Saturday, Feb. 9 against Jacksonville State. A former SEC Player of the Year and record-setting professional softball player in the United States and Japan, Butler has spent the last four seasons turning around the program as head coach at Toledo while earning the 2018 Mid-American Conference Coach of the Year honor.
