#NFLKnights: Three Earn Super Bowl Rings
Feb 04 | Football
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Three former Rutgers football standouts – Duron Harmon, Devin McCourty and Jason McCourty – earned Super Bowl rings after the New England Patriots defeated the Los Angeles Rams, 13-3, Sunday night in Super Bowl LIII. The three Super Bowl champions from Rutgers were the most from any school on New England's active roster.
Sunday marked the third Super Bowl victory for Devin McCourty and Duron Harmon – all with New England – while Jason McCourty earned the first championship of his career. In addition, New England safeties coach Steve Belichick, who was a long snapper in 2011 at Rutgers and played lacrosse from 2008-11 for the Scarlet Knights – also earned his third Super Bowl ring.
Harmon and Devin McCourty's three Super Bowl championships tie Harry Swayne for the most by a former Rutgers football player in school history. In total, fifteen Scarlet Knights have combined for 22 Super Bowl victories.
Devin McCourty started at safety and Jason McCourty started at cornerback in the championship game, helping New England allow just three points to Los Angeles. Jason McCourty had five tackles and defended two passes, including one in the third quarter that prevented a touchdown. Devin McCourty produced two tackles in the win, while Harmon made a huge play in the fourth quarter to help break up a potential scoring play.
