Scarlet Knights Bring Home 13 PRs, Nine ECAC Qualifying Marks & Five Top Eight Performances
BOSTON – The Rutgers women's indoor track and field team captured 13 new personal bests along with nine ECAC qualifying mark and five top eight finishes at the Hemery Valentine's Invitational hosted by Boston University on Friday.
"We had another very good competition in back-to-back weekends," said head coach James Robinson. "They are starting to string together PRs and season bests as we make our run towards the Big Ten Championships. It's great to see them setting PRs across all event areas and witness the continued growth as a team."
The Scarlet Knight 4x400m had the top performance of the meet with a fourth place finish. The quartet to freshman Mackenzie Prezume, seniors Phyllis Gordon and Jenna Sobieski and freshman Reanda Richards put together a time of 3:43.61 for the squad's top time of the season. The group bested last weekend's time of 3:49:09 in a second place finish at the Metropolitan Championships.
Freshman Iyanla Kollock tied her best time of the season in the 60m Invitational field. The rookie Scarlet Knight crossed the finish line in 7.69, tying her PR set in a third place performance a week ago at the Metropolitan Championships.
Three Scarlet Knights captured top eight placement in the jumps. Sophomore Courteney Campbell leaped to a height of 1.70m (5'7)" to take sixth and was followed by redshirt junior Rhonda Rogombe in seventh at a height of 1.64m (5'5"). In the long jump, sophomore Jacqueline Simmons logged a ECAC qualifying distance of 5.61m (18' 5") for sixth place
Other notable results included PR's and ECAC qualifying times by freshman Mackenzie Prezume in the 500m and sophomore Olympia Martin in the mile. Prezume took 10th with her best finish line time of 1:14.85, bettering her time of 1:16.74 set at last weekend's Mets. Martin, meanwhile, recorded a mile time of 4:56.65, resetting her previous PR of 5:03.99 set a last year's indoor season opener at the Towson Tiger Invitational.
Freshman Reanda Richards and senior Phyllis Gordon in the 400m and senior Jenna Sobieski in the 800m were also able to capture ECAC qualifying times on Friday.
