PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers men's lacrosse earned two Big Ten weekly awards Tuesday following Saturday's rivalry win over Princeton. Defenseman
Garrett Bullett was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, while goalkeeper
Max Edelmann earned Big Ten Co-Specialist of the Week for their performances as the Scarlet Knights claimed the Meistrell Cup.
Bullett had a lock-down defensive performance in the 9-8 win over the Tigers. The redshirt sophomore covered Princeton Michael Sowers', who entered the game second in nation in points and assists. The Draper, Utah native held Sowers below his season averages in limiting him to his lowest point total of the year. RU held Princeton to just eight goals, three below their average and their first time being held in single-digits this season.

Edelmann was exceptional in the cage for the Scarlet Knights, setting a career-high 18 saves. His last save was the biggest, with RU holding on to a one-goal lead with six seconds remaining, Edelmann stoned Princeton's leading scorer from the midfield in a save that iced the victory. The team captain had the most saves for a Rutgers player since 2014. The Middletown, Md. native has a .646 save percentage this season, which leads the Big Ten and is second best in the nation. His goals-against-average of 8.75 paces the conference and is seventh in the nation. The redshirt senior has averaged 16 saves per game, which would place him first in the Big Ten and second in the nation.Edelmann was also named to the USILA Team of the Week.
"Our defense did an excellent job," head coach
Brian Brecht said following the win over Princeton. "
Max Edelmann was a leader back there in goal, and he did a great job making saves and starting our transition.
Garrett Bullett did a great job with his matchup on Michael Sowers, I was really impressed with his play."
Overall, the Scarlet Knights have earned six Big Ten weekly awards this season: two by
Kyle Pless (Defensive Player of the Week), one by
Kieran Mullins (Offensive Player of the Week) and one by
Connor Harryman (Co-Specialist of the Week) in addition to the two this week. This is the first career Big Ten weekly award for Bullett, and second for Edelmann, who was previously named Big Ten Specialist of the Week on April 11 last season following 14 saves in 16-8 win over Michigan.
Rutgers resumes action Tuesday night, hosting No. 16 Lehigh at 7 p.m. That game will be televised on the Big Ten Network. Tickets for the 2019 season are on sale through the Rutgers Ticket Office online or by calling 1-866-445-GORU (4678).
