Gymnastics Earns Road Win at Cornell

Scarlet Knights complete regular season with 194.825

ITHACA, N.Y. – In its final outing before the Big Ten Championships, Rutgers gymnastics bested Cornell on the road with 194.825 Sunday at Newman Hall. The Big Red finished by posting a 193.000.
 
The Scarlet Knights have recorded a 194 or better in each of the past eight meets and in nine of the last 10. The 194.825 signaled the third-best team score of the season, as numbers two and three on the list have come in the past two weeks away from home.

"We had a strong finish to our regular season," head coach Umme Salim-Beasley said. "The team competed today with confidence and determination. We are so pleased with the consistency this team has been able to show. It's exciting to see how much fun they are having when they are competing. They know that their hard work has led them to a strong position heading in to Big Ten Championships."
 
Sophomore Belle Huang topped 39 in the all-around for the fourth time this season, ending with a 39.075. Senior Michelle Amoresano totaled a 38.900.
 
In a dual-meet format, Rutgers started off on uneven bars and picked up a 48.375. Amoresano tied her career high and took first place by swinging to a 9.825. Junior Shannon Farrell followed with a 9.775.
 
The vault lineup produced a 48.750, led by a 9.800 from Amoresano. Seniors Riahanah Ali and Jenna Rizkalla both ran to a 9.750, while Huang and sophomore Toni Williams each landed at 9.725 to round out the team score.
 
Floor exercise tallied the highest of the four events at 48.950. Huang paced the unit with a 9.875. Rizkalla registered a 9.825, with Ali contributing a 9.775 and Williams earning a 9.750. Sophomore Sophia Atienza matched her career high set last week with a 9.725.
 
Huang claimed first place on balance beam with her second 9.900 of the season. Freshman Kiera Doherty-Herwitz (9.775), Amoresano (9.750) and Rizkalla (9.725) all went over 9.700 to the team's 48.750.
 
The Scarlet Knights are in the noon session of the Big Ten Championships set for Saturday at Penn State. The meet will broadcast on Big Ten Network.
