Budd Named Co-Offensive Big Ten Player of the Week

Junior netted career-high eight goals last Tuesday in win at Lafayette
ROSEMONT, Ill. – Rutgers women's lacrosse junior midfielder Samantha Budd was named Co-Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week, announced today by the conference office. The recognition comes after Budd netted a career-high eight goals – including the game-winner with 48 seconds left – to lift the Scarlet Knights over Lafayette last Tuesday in Easton, Pennsylvania.
This is the first weekly honor of Budd's career and the fourth for RU this season – as Marin Hartshorn (2x) and Kameron Halsall both earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week accolades. The four weekly awards mark the most for the program since it joined the league in 2015.
Budd was the best player on the field when Rutgers played Lafayette on the road last Tuesday, as the West Deptford, New Jersey, native set a career high in goals (8) and matched a career high in points (9) against the Leopards. Six of those goals came in the first half, while her final scoring tallie – an unassisted strike in the final minute – broke a 15-15 tie and gave the Scarlet Knights their fifth win of the season. Budd also had three draw controls and three ground balls in the victory.
Budd has now scored three or more goals in three of her last five outings, totaling 20 scores during that span. The streak also includes a seven-goal outing in RU's win over Monmouth earlier this month.
Rutgers continues its challenging Big Ten slate when it hosts No. 2 Maryland on Saturday for a 5 p.m. showdown live on BTN.
