Rowing Wins Doc Hosea Invitational

Scarlet Knights earned wins over No. 14 Syracuse and No. 15 Minnesota
CHERRY HILL, N.J. – Rutgers rowing picked up four event wins, including a pair of victories over nationally-ranked squads at the Doc Hosea Invitational on Saturday, March 30 in Cherry Hill, N.J.
"I'm really proud of our entire team today," said head coach Justin Price. "We are continuing to show a lot of growth and improvement in all areas. Winning a competition named after and dedicated to Doc Hosea makes today extra special because of what he means to Rutgers."
Rutgers won the varsity eight Grand Final in 6:32.00, outpacing No. 14 Syracuse in second in 6:32.31, followed by No. 15 Minnesota in third in 6:34.50. The Scarlet Knights picked up Grand Final victories over the Orange and Gophers in second varsity as well with Rutgers taking first in 6:47.09, followed by Syracuse in second (6:52.43) and Penn in third (6:52.50).
The 12-team field included Boston University, Columbia, Dartmouth, UMass, Minnesota, Navy, Northeastern, Penn, Rhode Island, Syracuse and Temple, in addition to Rutgers. The Scarlet Knights earned Big Ten Boat of the Week honors entering Saturday's competition following a standout performance in the season opener at the Cooper Sprints.
Team Standings
The second varsity four won its event in a time of 7:42.77, ahead of Navy (7:48.53) in second and Penn in third (8:00.68). The varsity four squad finished second with a time of 7:48.09, while the novice eight boat also took second in its event, posting a time of 7:18.22. Rutgers raced its second novice eight boat in the same event, with the Scarlet Knights finishing sixth in a time of 7:48.33.
In the third varsity four, the Scarlet Knights went 1-2 with the Rutgers A group winning the event in a time of 7:49.50. The Rutgers B boat finished runner up in 7:54.28.
The Doc Hosea Invitational honors longtime Rutgers team orthopedist Dr. Timothy Hosea, who passed away suddenly in Aug. 2015. Dr. Hosea, who worked with the Rutgers Athletics for over 30 years, was a prominent figure in the rowing community, serving as team physician for the USRowing national team.
Rutgers returns to action on Saturday, April 13 for a Big Ten Double Dual against Michigan State and Michigan on the campus of Ohio State.
