Women’s Golf Readies for Lady Buckeye Invitational
Apr 12 | Women's Golf
PISCATAWAY – Women's golf travels to Columbus to compete in the 15-team Lady Buckeye Invitational on Saturday and Sunday at the Ohio State University Golf Club Scarlet Course. On the heels of first and second place finishes in their last two outings, the Scarlet Knights square-off against a strong field boasting 10 teams from the Golftstat top 100, including three in the top 30.
Sophomore Harriet Allsebrook, graduate senior Ashleigh Greenham, freshman Maeve Rossi, juniors Carrie-Ann Lee and Ana Cortes and sophomore Lori Char comprise the travel squad. The tournament will employ six player rosters with the top four scores counting toward the scorecard on the par 72, 6,319-yard course.
Rutgers is fresh from a second place performance with an 887 (292-298-297) total at the 15-team Jan Weaver Invitational last weekend at Frances E. Miller Memorial Golf Course in Murray, Ky. Three Scarlet Knights finished among the top 10 in the 97-player field for RU, which was three strokes shy of capturing its second straight tournament victory.
Located in central Columbus, the Ohio State University Golf Club is rated as one of the top collegiate courses in the nation. The Club hosts numerous events such as the Kepler, Lady Buckeye, AJGA, OHSAA Division I state high school championship and, most notably, the WEB.com Nationwide Children's Hospital Championship. The Club has two 18-hole courses; the ever popular Gray course and the renowned Scarlet course, which was recently renovated by Jack Nicklaus in 2006.
Last April, Rutgers placed 12th with a 620 (310-310) total at a rain-shortened Lady Buckeye.
The teams will play 36 holes on Saturday with tee times beginning at 8:30 a.m., before an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start for Sunday's final round. In addition to the No. 82 Scarlet Knights and No. 56 Buckeyes, the field will consist of No. 30 Illinois, Indianapolis, No. 11 Kent State, No. 53 Maryland, No. 68 Michigan, No. 20 Michigan State, Minnesota, No. 88 Nebraska, No. 98 Seton Hall and No. 96 Toledo.
The Weather Channel is forecasting temperatures in the mid- to high-60s this weekend with rain showers on Sunday in Columbus. Live scoring will be available via Golfstat.
