COLUMBUS, OH – Graduate senior Ashleigh Greenham carded a 222 (77-72-73) to finish tied for ninth in the 75-player field at the Lady Buckeye Invitational, played Saturday and Sunday at the Ohio State University Golf Club Scarlet Course. It marked the co-captain's fourth top 10 performance in the last six tournaments and helped the Scarlet Knights place ninth with a 916 (304-301-311) total at the 12-team event.
"I felt consistent with my irons today and was able to save a lot of pars with my putter," said Greenham. "The conditions were a test of our mental strength and I was happy with the way I was able to finish the tournament. This was a great way to prepare for Big Tens next week."
The Scarlet Knights battled through difficult conditions during Sunday's final round against a strong field boasting 10 teams from the Golftstat top 100.
"Conditions were tougher this morning with cold rain and wind," said head coach Kari Williams. "Ash hit some really nice shots this weekend and put together a strong event for us. We have a few areas of our games to work on in practice this week to prepare for the Big Ten Championship, but we are looking forward to the challenge."
Greenham carded a tournament-best 40 pars and was minus one on par five holes. The Scarlet Knights compiled 158 pars in the event, which employed six player rosters with the top four scores counting toward the scorecard.
Sophomore Harriet Allsebrook tied for 41st with a 233 (78-77-78) and junior Carrie-Ann Lee tied for 45th with a 234 (81-74-79) to join Greenham in the top 50 on the par 72, 6,319-yard course.
Freshman Maeve Rossi, sophomore Lori Char and junior Ana Cortes completed the team scorecard. Rossi tied for 51st with a 236 (76-79-81), Char placed 59th with a 238 (73-78-87) and Cortes tied for 70th with a 245 (81-83-81). Char carded a team-best seven birdies.
The Scarlet Knights bested Toledo, Minnesota and Seton Hall in their final tournament before this week's Big Ten Championship. No. 11-ranked Kent State won the Invitational with an 880 (293-291-296), one stroke ahead of second place and No. 20-ranked Michigan State. Pilar Echeverria, from the University of Indianapolis, earned individual medalist honors with a one-under 215 (69-72-74).
Rutgers returns to the links Friday through Sunday in Maineville, Ohio, for the Big Ten Championships at TPC River's Bend.
