Women’s Golf Set for Big Ten Championships
Apr 18 | Women's Golf
PISCATAWAY - Women's golf travels to Maineville, Ohio, to compete in the 2019 Big Ten Women's Golf Championships Friday through Sunday at TPC River's Bend. Ranked No. 83 nationally by Golfstat, the Scarlet Knights will compete against six programs in the top 50, including defending champion and No. 19 Michigan State, on the 6,357-yard, par 72 championship course.
The Big Ten Championship will utilize a six player format with the top four scores entered on the scorecard. Sophomore Harriet Allsebrook, graduate senior Ashleigh Greenham, freshman Maeve Rossi, juniors Carrie-Ann Lee and Ana Cortes, and sophomore Lori Char will comprise the RU travel party.
Allsebrook brings a team-best 74.36 scoring average into the Championship on the heels of four top 10 finishes this season. Rossi boasts a 74.96 scoring average and two top 10 performances in her rookie campaign.
Named by Golf Digest among the "Top 10 Best New Private Clubs in the U.S." after it opened in 2001, the Arnold Palmer- designed golf course has been recognized as one of Ohio's "Best Courses in State" by Golf Digest in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2015, 2016, and 2017. TPC River's Bend has hosted the Web.com Tour's Chiquita Classic, the PGA TOUR Champions Kroger Classic, and the Junior PGA Championship. In 2018, TPC River's Bend became the first PGA TOUR owned and operated property to host an LPGA Tour sanctioned— Symetra Tour's PRASCO Charity Championship.
This year's Big Ten Women's Golf Championships medalist will be extended an exemption to compete in this historic event.
The Scarlet Knights are coming off a ninth place finish with a 916 (304-301-311) total at last weekend's Lady Buckeye Invitational. Greenham carded a 222 (77-72-73) to finish tied for ninth in the 75-player field, the co-captain's fourth top 10 performance in the last six tournaments.
Rutgers placed 14th with a 914 (312-301-301) total at the 2018 Big Ten Championships. Emily Mills concluded her collegiate career in convincing fashion, carding her second straight 73 to lead the team with a 227 (81-73-73) total.
