PISCATAWAY, N.J.– Rutgers women's lacrosse (5-10, 0-5) dropped an 11-7 contest to Ohio State (9-7, 1-4) on Saturday afternoon in Piscataway. The Scarlet Knights outshot OSU, 26-25, scooped up 20 groundballs to the visitor's 14 and caused 15 Buckeye turnovers in the loss.
Saturday served as Senior Day for RU, as the team honored graduating student-athletes
Abbey Brooks,
Christine DiLullo,
Allie Ferrara,
Tess Howland,
Devon Kearns,
Amanda Romano and
Regina Sharp prior to the game.
Sophomore
Taralyn Naslonski produced a team-high three points on two assists and a goal, while junior
Samantha Budd and redshirt freshman
Monica Dresnin each netted two goals apiece. On defense, Sharp caused a game-high four turnovers and Dilullo scooped up three ground balls.
It was a low-scoring affair in the first 30 minutes of play, as both teams combined for just seven goals to open the game. Ohio State jumped out to a 2-0 lead before Rutgers answered with two consecutive goals, courtesy of Budd and Naslonski. After the visitors added two more, Budd's second of the game at the 2:51 mark made it 4-3 at the break.
The Scarlet Knights were the aggressor out of the locker room, as they went on a 3-1 scoring run in the first eight minutes of the second half. Dresnin converted a beautiful behind-the-back goal off the assist from Naslonski during the scoring run to tie the game at the 29:11 mark in the second half. Sophomore
Julia Lytle gave RU its first lead of the game on the following possession, while Dresnin's second goal made it 6-5 with 23:47 left to play.
With momentum swung in Rutgers' favor, Ohio State would counter with a 6-1 scoring run to close out the game. Buckeye Baley Parrott, who scored three times during the run, finished with a game-high five goals to help the visitors to a win.
Rutgers travels to Penn State to close out the regular season on Saturday, April 27 in State College.
