Women’s Golf Returns to Action in the Bluegrass State
Apr 04 | Women's Golf
PISCATAWAY – Women's golf travels to Murray, Ky., for the Jan Weaver Invitational, hosted by Murray State, on Friday and Saturday at Frances E. Miller Memorial Golf Course. The No. 79th-ranked Scarlet Knights join 14 other programs in the 54-hole tournament on the par 72, 6,010-yard course.
Graduate senior Ashleigh Greenham, juniors Carrie-Ann Lee and Ana Cortes, sophomores Harriet Allsebrook and Lori Char, and freshman Maeve Rossi comprise the travel party.
In addition to the Scarlet Knights and Racers, the field features Austin Peay, Belmont, Eastern Kentucky, Tennessee Tech, Tennessee State, Alabama State, Bradley, Illinois State, Lipscomb, Louisiana-Monroe, Missouri Baptist, Northern Kentucky and Southern Illinois.
The Invitational is the fourth of six tournaments on RU's spring schedule. In its last outing, Rutgers captured first place at the 12-team Juli Inkster Invitational at Meadow Club with a program-record 868 (284-295-289) total. Allsebrook set a school-record with a nine-under par 207 (67-70-70) to earn individual medalist honors, as RU won its first tournament title since the Hartford Hawks Invitational in April of 2010.
Heralded as one of the west Kentucky lakes region's finest courses, Miller Memorial Golf Course offers a variety of challenges. Professionally manicured MiniVerde Ultradwarf Bermuda Grass Greens are surrounded by 50 sand bunkers, with three scenic water hazards also coming into play. The fairways feature automatically watered Bermuda grass. Miller Memorial is carved out of a 175 acre tract of land donated to the Murray State University Foundation in 1979.
Thirty-six holes are slated for Friday, with an additional 18 on Saturday. Live scoring will be available via Golfstat.
