Tennis Defeats Nebraska on the Road

LINCOLN, NEB.  – Rutgers tennis claimed a road victory over Nebraska, defeating the Cornhuskers, 4-3, on Sunday afternoon. The Scarlet Knights captured the team doubles point and three singles matches for the win.

"Today was a team effort. We came out hungry and ready to play," said freshman Sydney Kaplan. "Our energy was great and we all fought to the very end. I'm so grateful that I could clinch for my team, I couldn't have done it without their support!"

Kaplan registered her third straight Big Ten singles win to clinch the match, while also contributing to a doubles victory. Kaplan now leads the team with 10 singles wins on the season.

DOUBLES PLAY
Rutgers jumped to an early advantage over Nebraska with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles spots.

Freshman Tess Fisher and Kaplan first posted a 6-3 win over the Huskers' Hayley Haakenstad and Jeannie Lozowski at the No. 3 spot.

At the No. 1 position, sophomore Maya Jacobs and junior Kat Muzik followed with a 6-4 win over Nebraska's Marina Cozac and Vasanti Shinde to secure the team point and a 1-0 lead in the match.

Junior Jaci Cochrane and freshman Kristiana Zahare were also in the lead at the No. 2 spot by a margin of 5-3.

SINGLES PLAY
Muzik carried the momentum into singles by claiming the first win of the day at the No. 2 spot. She topped Lozowski in a commanding 6-3, 6-0 match.

Nebraska would sneak into the lead, 3-2 with the next three singles wins, but not for long.

Despite dropping the first set, Fisher rallied back with 7-6 and 6-3 margins in the next sets to take the win at the No. 2 spot over Shinde. It marked Fisher's second league win of the season.

At the No. 4 spot, Kaplan battled out an intense three-set match with Marina Xozac. After falling, 7-6, in the first set, Kaplan secured wins of 6-4 and 7-5 in the next to clinch the victory for RU.

It marks the second conference foe RU has topped this year, having defeated Penn State in nonconference action earlier this season.
