Golf Programs Host Successful Manasquan River Outing

BRIELLE, N.J. – Rutgers men's and women's golf hosted the fifth annual Manasquan River Golf Club Outing on Monday, May 20 in Brielle, New Jersey. Attendees included Rutgers alumni, donors, staff, local businesses, former golf letterwinners and friends of the program.
Participants heard from and engaged with current student-athletes Ashleigh Greenham, Christopher Gotterup, Tony Jiang and Bobby Weise, as proceeds from the event went directly to both programs. Fundraising efforts from previous outings have assisted both teams in a number of initiatives, including equipment upgrades, private club memberships and the purchase of the Class of '57 Sprinter Golf Van last year which is used to transport student-athletes to regional tournaments during both the fall and spring seasons.
Women's head coach Kari Williams and assistant coach Joanna Henry, along with Lisa Roth and Jackie Mullens took home first place in the 18-hole scramble. Ryan MacDonald won men's stroke play with a 73, while Roth secured the women's stroke play title. A full list of winners, as well as this year's sponsors, can be found below.
Both men's and women's golf programs enjoyed record-setting seasons in 2018-19. Women's golf had a number of strong performances during the spring, including a first-place result at the Juli Inkster Invitational on March 19 in Fairfax, California. Harriet Allsebrook set a program record with a nine-under-par 207 (67-70-70), at the event, as the Scarlet Knights defeated three Top 50 opponents according to GolfStat.
Behind top-10 results from Gotterup and Shayler Dance, men's golf produced the best result at the Big Ten Championships in program history with its sixth-place finish last month in Philadelphia under head coach Rob Shutte. Gotterup, who closed out the spring season with three consecutive top-5 finishes, was named Second Team All-Big Ten, another first for the program since it joined the conference in 2014-15.
Women's golf will host the annual Unger-Deblasio Cup on Friday, Sept. 13, while men's golf will host its annual Hackberry Invitational on Friday, Sept. 20. Both events will take place at the Rutgers Golf Course.
