Preview Video of RWJBarnabas Health Athletic Performance Center Released

PISCATAWAY - Rutgers Athletics today released a preview video of the RWJBarnabas Health Athletic Performance Center at Rutgers University. The 307,000-square-foot, four-story facility and parking deck that rose via partnership, the R Big Ten Build campaign, and tax credits under an Economic Redevelopment and Growth Grant, will begin welcoming tenants later this summer with an official grand opening slated for September.
RWJBarnabas Health President and CEO Barry Ostrowsky and Director of Athletics Pat Hobbs guide the tour, which reveals the facility's progress and communicates special features.
"I'm afraid for far too long we haven't produced, as a state, those facilities and resources necessary to have world-class athletes, and frankly, in New Jersey, we have world-class athletes," says Ostrowsky. "At Rutgers, we have world-class students. So, this is just for us, a wonderful opportunity to invest in a great University."
The Center represents a partnership between Rutgers and RWJBarnabas Health to create a comprehensive sports medicine program to serve Rutgers athletes, students and communities throughout New Jersey. RWJBarnabas Health is the exclusive health care provider for Rutgers Athletics and is creating a best-in-class sports medicine program to be expanded across the state. The facility will serve as headquarters for a world-class sports medicine program.
"It's going to be a game-changer for our student-athletes in clinical care," said Hobbs. "They are going to receive the very best in sports medicine."
The building will provide state-of-the-art practice facilities, training areas, locker room and office space for men's and women's basketball, wrestling and gymnastics. A café serving healthy meals to student-athletes, as well as a merchandise store open to the general public, will also be included.
In addition to the Athletic Performance Center, The Gary and Barbara Rodkin Academic Success Center is poised to rise via the R Big Ten Build campaign for athletic facilities, which has crested its $100 million goal.
The Marco Battaglia Football Practice Complex was unveiled in August 2017 after the Fred Hill Training Complex opened the prior January. In addition, the Harriett and Bob Druskin Strength and Conditioning Center was dedicated in April 2017 and the Ron and Joanna Garutti Strength and Conditioning Center opened in August 2016. The Brown Family Football Locker Room is currently undergoing renovations to be completed for fall training camp.
