Tennis Set for Four Fall Invitationals
Aug 14 | Women's Tennis
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers tennis released its 2019 Fall schedule, fourth-year head coach Hilary Ritchie announced. The slate features four invitationals, including the ITA Regional Championships.
"I am really looking forward to our fall tournaments," said Ritchie. "This is the first year we are playing at the Princeton and Army events, which will have several nationally ranked competitors. The fall season can be very key in allowing individual players and doubles teams to focus on their success and growth."
The Scarlet Knights open the fall at the Princeton Invitational the weekend of Sept. 13-15. Next up, RU competes at the Army Invitational Sept. 27-29.
Rutgers then returns to West Point for the ITA Regional Championships Oct. 17-22 hosted by Army. At the ITA Northeast Regional last year, Kat Muzik and Tess Fisher advanced to the semifinals of the doubles draw as the only unseeded team to reach the round. Overall, Rutgers saw five Scarlet Knights advance to the round of 16, including one in singles and two pairs in the doubles draw, the most for RU in recent years.
Rutgers then wraps up the fall at the Buffalo Invitational Nov. 1-3.
The Scarlet Knights are coming off a year that culminated with a top 10 regional ranking in the Northeast. RU closed the year with its highest overall win total (9) since joining the Big Ten conference. It marks the fourth time Rutgers has received a regional ranking since Ritchie has been with the program.
