SAAC Hosts Welcome Back Ice Cream Social

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - On Monday, Sept. 2, Rutgers Student-Athlete Advisory Committee hosted the Welcome Back Ice Cream Social at the RAC. In conjunction with the Office of Leadership Development and Strategic Partnerships, the event marked the official kickoff to the 2019-20 school year for the Scarlet Knights.
The day, emceed by SAAC President Joey Downes and President Elect Ryan Cassidy, kicked off with a welcome from AD Pat Hobbs and Deputy AD Sarah Baumgartner. The Rutgers student-athletes were briefed on the Strategic Plan and Core Values of the department.
In addition to addresses from Dr. Kristina Navarro and Dr. Tom Stephens, Rutgers Faculty Athletics Representative, the 2019-20 SAAC Executive Board was introduced as follows.
2019-20 SAAC EXECUTIVE BOARD
Following the introductions, the Scarlet Knights had a quick rundown of the RU Chant before jumping into the SAAC Challenge. The challenge this year featured a rock, paper, scissors tournament, where each team selected one representative to enter the single elimination competition. In the end, Delaney Carey of swimming and diving was crowned the champion for her squad.
The event wrapped up with some ice cream outside of the new Rutgers Athletic Performance Center with DJ Nate providing some tunes for the student-athletes.
