PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers men's and women's track and field gears up for the 2020 Metropolitan Indoor Championships Jan. 30-31 in Staten Island. The meet will be hosted at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex with live results being available at the start of competition.
The Scarlet Knights carry strong momentum, having produced at least one record in three straight weekends to start the year. After starting the record-setting trend with his 500m in the season opener, sophomore Taj Burgess extended the streak by pushing his school record in the event to 1:00.73 at BU's Terrier Invitational on Saturday. The mark increased his hold on the second fastest time in NCAA history.
The week prior, Rutgers posted a pair of school records on the women's side with junior Courteney Campbell establishing a new height in the high jump of 1.80m (5' 10.75"), while freshman Claudine Smith posted a school-best mark in the triple jump with a distance of 12.68m (41' 7").
Overall, Rutgers captured wins in four events in addition to 13 total finishes in the top-three up during its most recent outing in Boston. The men enter the weekend as the winners of the Metropolitan Indoor Championships the last five years, while the women come in as winners of the last two.
Rutgers travels to Notre Dame for the Meyo Invitational Feb. 7-8 in South Bend.
