Gymnastics Collects Four Event Titles at Maryland

COLLEGE PARK, MD. –  Rutgers gymnastics collected four event titles and a total of eight top-3 finishes in a Big Ten dual meet at Maryland on Sunday in College Park. Freshman Hannah Joyner claimed the all-around and beam title, while senior Shannon Farrell captured the bar title and classmate Kaitlyn Hall earned the vault title. The Scarlet Knights posted a 194.000 as a team overall.
 
BARS
For the second straight week, senior Shannon Farrell posted a season-best 9.875 on bars, finishing first. Sophomore Abigail Karolewski earned a 9.800 with her routine to follow, while freshman Hannah Joyner notched a season-high 9.775. Junior Belle Huang (9.750) and senior Kaitlyn Hall (9.700) rounded out the team score of 48.900 on bars.
 
VAULT
Moving to vault, Hall led the way with a career-high 9.875 to place first in the event. Huang followed in third with a season-high 9.825 for her vault. Joyner tied for third with a 9.825 as well, while freshman Jenna Ferguson contributed a 9.725 to the team score of 48.925.
 
FLOOR
Next up on floor, Huang produced a team-high 9.850. Joyner's routine recorded a 9.825, while Farrell's performance posted a 9.725 to contribute to a 47.800 score for the squad.
 
BEAM
Joyner closed out the meet for RU with a 9.925 on beam, hitting the 9.9 mark for the fifth time in her rookie season. Huang's routine earned her a season-high 9.875 to place second. Junior Emily Drauss reached a 9.800 in the event to help push the team score to 48.375.
 
ALL-AROUND
Joyner set a new career-high in the all-around with a 39.350, claiming first overall. Huang came in second with a career-high of her own at 39.300.
 
KNIGHT NOTES
  • Overall, Rutgers has recorded 17 first place event finishes across seven meets, including ten in Big Ten dual meets.
  • It marked the second-straight meet that Shannon Farrell (bars) and Kaitlyn Hall (vault) claimed first on their respective events in the Big Ten dual meet. Both seniors took the titles on the events in the home meet against Michigan State last weekend.
UP NEXT
Rutgers will compete at the Big Five meet on podium set for Friday, Feb. 21 in Toledo, Ohio.
