Tennis Sweeps Seton Hall at Home
Feb 21 | Women's Tennis
EAST BRUNSWICK, N.J. – Rutgers tennis swept the Seton Hall Pirates, 7-0, on Friday, Feb. 21 at the East Brunswick Racquet Club. The Scarlet Knights advance to a 7-2 season record.
"The team came out with good energy today and they took care of business and played fairly cleanly," stated head coach Hilary Ritchie. "Now we're really going to be focused on our next match. It is different to have a midweek match, but it's a big one being a conference match. We're going to be really focused this week and make sure we're prepared."
Sophomore Tess Fisher and senior Kat Muzik (No. 1) swept opponents Minja Gligic and Hiba El Khalifi 6-0 to start the Scarlet Knights off.
In the No. 2 spot, sophomore Sydney Jones and senior Jaci Cochrane helped dominate the doubles point with a 6-2 victory over Michal Matson and Aina Plana Ventosa.
Rutgers started the singles up 2-0, with junior Isabelle Da Silva adding a win in the No. 6 spot by default.
Fisher picked up the next singles win of the day in the No. 2 spot over Matson, 6-2, 6-1.
Clinching the match for the Scarlet Knights was sophomore Kristiana Zahare (No. 5) 6-4, 6-1 over Anniek Jansen.
Sophomore Sydney Kaplan added a victory over Plana Ventosa in the No. 3 spot, 6-3, 6-1. Jacobs followed closely behind with a 6-1, 7-5 defeat over Gligic in her first appearance of the season in the No. 1 spot.
Closing out the match Muzik (No. 4) defeated El Khalifi, 6-4, 6-3.
Rutgers will host Nebraska on Wednesday, Feb. 26, at 1:30 p.m. at the East Brunswick Racquet Club.
