Rookie leads Rutgers in historic weekend
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Hannah Joyner of Rutgers gymnastics has been named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week. Joyner won back-to-back all-around titles across an undefeated weekend for the Scarlet Knights, including a home tri-meet win and road quad meet victory.
On Sunday, Joyner's matched her personal best all-around mark of 39.350, contributing the program's highest ever road score in program history at 195.900. The team topped No. 15 Auburn, marking its highest recorded ranked win and first defeat of an SEC opponent.
Joyner won the beam title with a 9.900, reaching a 9.9 or higher for the seventh time in the event this season. Her beam result helped push RU to a season-high team score of 49.250. It marked the second-highest program score in the event, topping the previous total set in January of this year, upping the mark from a 49.200 set on Jan. 31 at Penn State.
At home on Friday, Joyner took the all-around title with a 39.225 in wins over Cornell and Southern Connecticut State. She placed first on bars with a career-high 9.900, tied for second on floor with a 9.800, and finished third on vault with a 9.800.
Overall, the rookie ranks 19th in the nation on beam with an NQS of 9.910 and 24th in the all-around with an NQS of 39.310. She collects the first Big Ten Freshman of the Week honor in program history.
