Gotterup within Top 20 after first two rounds in Bluffton, South Carolina
BLUFFTON, S.C. – Junior Christopher Gotterup finds himself within the Top 20 of the 90-player field after Rutgers men's golf closed out the first day of the Colleton River Collegiate on Monday in Bluffton, South Carolina. Gotterup finished the afternoon at two under through 15 holes before the second round was suspended due to darkness. Round two, along with the final round, will be completed beginning Tuesday morning at the Pete Dye Course at the Colleton River Club.
The Scarlet Knights are currently 12th at nineteen-over-par. Georgia Southern is first with a 10-under-par 566 (281-285), followed by Iowa State (-4) and No. 12 Notre Dame (+3). Alex Schaake from Iowa is atop the individual leaderboard at five under.
After he produced a two-over-par 74 in the opening round, Gotterup settled in with four birdies in his next 15 holes. The performance included three consecutive birdies on holes 14, 15 and 16, as his nine pars in the second round put him at two under before play was halted. Gotterup also carded two birdies in the first round to highlight his play on Monday.
Rookie Xavier Marcoux saw his name close to the top of the leaderboard during periods of the first round, as he produced four birdies and 10 pars to finish with just a one-over-par 73 after his first 18. Marcoux added two birdies in the second round and dropped to 32nd in the field heading into Tuesday action.
Senior Tony Jiang (+5), freshman Brendan Hansen (+10) and junior Oliver Whatley (+14) rounded out the team scorecard. Competing as an individual, sophomore Shayler Dance is tied for 81st (77-79: 156).
The conclusion of the second round begins tomorrow morning at 8 a.m., followed by the third and final round.
