PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Freshman Hannah Joyner and senior Kaitlyn Hall of Rutgers gymnastics claimed All-Big Ten honors following the 2020 season, the conference announced Thursday. Joyner earned First Team recognition, while Hall garnered Second Team accolades and the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award.
It marks the first all-conference accolades for both Scarlet Knights, as well as the first time RU has had two All-Big Ten honorees in a single season. Joyner is the first Rutgers gymnast to be tabbed a First Team selection since joining the league.
HANNAH JOYNER | FRESHMAN | FIRST TEAM ALL-BIG TEN
Joyner burst onto the collegiate scene with a 9.900 on beam for her first routine as a Scarlet Knight. A week later she tied the school record at the time with a 9.925, reaching 9.9 or higher for seven total meets on the year. The rookie achieved career-highs of 9.900 on bars, 9.850 on floor and vault, and 39.350 in all-around.
Joyner's 39.350 all-around mark on March 8 helped push Rutgers to its highest ranked victory ever over No. 15 Auburn, while also boosting the highest road score in team history to 195.900. Combined with a home meet on March 6, where she placed top three in all events, Joyner was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week on March 12.
The Waldorf, Maryland, native ranked as high at 10th nationally on beam and 24th in the all-around, ending the year with a beam NQS of 9.910 and an all-around NQS of 39.310. She ended the year second on beam and third in all-around in the North East region.
Hall, a 2020 captain, competed for the Scarlet Knights on vault and bars in all 11 meets. The Raytown, Missouri, native pushed her career-high on vault to 9.875 three times on the year, including at the Big Five meet where the team produced a program-record team vault score of 49.225. She also contributed to the third-highest bar score for RU at 49.150 in the historic win over No. 15 Auburn.
Hall collected the vault title in four meets this season, including conference meets against Penn State, Michigan State and Maryland. She finished the year ranked fifth in the North East region with an NQS of 9.855 on the event.
A two-time Academic All-Big Ten recipient, Hall was also named the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award honoree for Rutgers.
