PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers tennis welcomes
Daira Cardenas to the 2020-21 squad, head coach
Hilary Ritchie announced. Hailing from San Juan del Río, Cardenas is a No. 1 ranked player nationally in Mexico.

"We are thrilled to have Daira joining our program this fall. She brings a lot of experience in competitive international tournaments," said Ritchie. "Not only does Daira have a strong tennis game, but her passion, values and character line up with our team."Â
"I chose Rutgers because it is a diverse university and it has really good academics and athletic level," said Cardenas. "Also, the University promotes personal values such as teamwork, responsibility, compromise and respect, which are the values I have grown with."

Notes on Cardenas: Tabbed No. 1 junior player nationally in Mexico throughout her career as early as the 10 & Under rankings…selected to represent Mexico in the Junior Fed Cup, including two times for the 14&U team (2015 & 2016) and for the 16&U team (2017)…2019 ITF J5 Metepec Singles Runner-up and Doubles Champion…2019 ITF J5 Zapopan Doubles Runner-up.

Personal: Daughter of Salvador Juan Cardenas Avendaño and Marisol Olivia Perusquia Bravo…also participated in swimming and ballet…intends to major in business. Â
