PISCATAWAY, N.J. – One of the most memorable games in Rutgers football history, the 1992 victory over Virginia Tech, will re-air Saturday at noon on Big Ten Network. The Halloween Homecoming classic at Rutgers Stadium saw Bryan Fortay connect with Chris Brantley for a game-winning touchdown as time expired to put the Scarlet Knights on top, 50-49.
RU fell behind 42-23 in the third quarter before outscoring the Hokies 27-7 from there to complete the comeback. Down 49-44 with 1:32 remaining, Fortay engineered a 78-yard game-winning drive that included a gain of 46 on a Hail Mary pass to Mario Henry with seven seconds left. Brantley then broke free in the back right corner of the end zone to secure the go-ahead score with zeros on the clock. It was the fourth receiving touchdown of the game for Brantley, a program record.
The shootout featured a combined 1,164 yards of total offense on 167 plays with 54 first downs, 10 interceptions and 14 touchdowns.
