Suriano Captures 2021 Henri Deglane Grand Prix Title for USA Wrestling

NICE, FRANCE – 2019 NCAA Champion Nick Suriano secured the 57 kg freestyle individual title at the 2021 Henri Deglane Grand Prix on Saturday in Nice, France. Suriano was one of four men's senior-level freestylers from USA Wrestling to capture gold medals along with Kyle Dake (74 kg), Yianni Diakomihalis (65 kg) and Kyle Snyder (97 kg).
Suriano shined in his first overseas freestyle tournament for USA Wrestling, as he collected a 3-0 record and outscored his opponents, 18-2, en route to his individual crown. In the 57 kg final, Suriano registered three takedowns on Islam Bazarganov (Azerbaijan) to earn a 7-1 decision. Suriano also shutout 2019 European Games champion Mahkir Amiraslanov (Azerbaijan) and earned a 4-1 win over 2013 Junior World bronze medalist Beka Bujiashvili (Georgia) during his impressive run.
Suriano, who qualified for the 2020 US Olympic Trials after he finished fourth at US Nationals last year, has produced 54 wins during his illustrious collegiate career at Rutgers. Suriano went 29-3 in his last full season of collegiate competition in 2018-19 and captured the NCAA title at 133 pounds.
