PISCATAWAY, N.J. – It was another Top 10 matchup for the Rutgers volleyball team on Sunday afternoon at the RAC. Playing in front of its largest crowd to date, the Scarlet Knights took on their fourth top 25 Big Ten opponent thru in its first six league matchups falling 3-0 (19-25, 9-25, 12-25) to No. 10 and Big Ten leader Nebraska.

STANDOUT STATS

Fifth-year senior Beka Kojadinovic and graduate student Megan Vernon led RU with five kills each.
Vernon swung .417 on the afternoon and also added a pair of blocks.
Senior Inna Balyko added 13 assists.
Fifth-year senior Beka Kojadinovic and sophomore Madyson Chitty each had double-figure digs. Kojadinovic led with 13 while Chitty collected 10.

KEY MOMENTS

Set 1 (19-25) | The Cornhuskers hit just .114 in the closest frame of the afternoon. Rutgers trailed by only one using a 5-1 run capped by a Megan Vernon kill prompting the Cornhuskers to take a timeout leading 17-16. One of nine first set attack errors by Nebraska kept Rutgers in the opening set at 19-17 and a solo rejection by Shealyn McNamara saw RU down 22-19. The Cornhuskers, however, used a Lindsey Krause kill and back-to-back aces from Kenzie Knuckles for the win.
Set 2 (9-25) | Nebraska opened a 6-2 advantage and closed on a 7-1 run to take the 2-0 lead. Meanwhile, Rutgers was limited to four kills while the Cornhuskers delivered five aces.
Set 3 (12-25) | The visitors had their best hitting percentage of the game swinging .467 and kicked off the final frame going out to a 12-6 lead. Another Vernon swing followed by an ace from Anastasiia Maksimova narrowed the deficit to 12-8 but Nebraska punched back with an 8-1 run.

The Rutgers volleyball team beings a four-game road swing beginning next weekend at No. 13 Penn State on Friday, Oct. 15 at 7:30 p.m. and at No. 7 Ohio State on Saturday, Oct. 16 at 7 p.m.
