Scarlet Knights use trip to PSU Cross Country Course as preview for Big Ten Championships
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Rutgers men's and women's cross country returned to the course, running against a national field at the PSU National Open on Friday, Oct. 15. Competing at the PSU Cross Country Course served as a preview for the Scarlet Knights as they will travel to the same venue for the Big Ten Championships in two weeks.
The women's squad placed eighth overall in a 16-team field behind the third top-20 finish of the season for freshman Alex Carlson. Senior Olympia Martin finished in 25th among more than 150 runners to help propel the Scarlet Knights to their standout showing.
"This meet was used as a preview for the Big Ten Championships which will be held on the same course in two weeks," said head cross country coach Matthew Jelley. "The focus was learning the course and working on running as a pack. The women had an impressive day finishing eighth in a national field."
