Oct 17 | Women's Soccer
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – With its 1-0 win over Michigan State on Sunday's Senior Day, No. 9 Rutgers women's soccer has clinched a share of the 2021 Big Ten title. The Scarlet Knights remain undefeated in Big Ten play with a record of 8-0, extending its win streak to a program-record nine straight victories.
An assist from freshman Riley Tiernan to sophomore Allison Lowrey in the 61st minute helped RU defeat MSU and move to an overall record of 13-2 on the season. This season, a total of 17 different Scarlet Knights have contributed to scoring, as Rutgers is outscoring opponents 44-12 overall and 18-6 in conference only matches.
Defensively, RU has posted seven shutouts, three of which have come in league action. RU has held all eight conference opponents to six or less shots on goal this season and five of eight to single-digit shots overall.
The Scarlet Knights nine straight victories is the longest win streak in program history, topping the 2015 squad with its streak of eight consecutive triumphs.
It marks the first Big Ten team title for Rutgers Athletics since joining the league in 2014.
The Scarlet Knights conclude the regular season with back-to-back matches on the road at Indiana (Thursday, Oct. 21) and Illinois (Sunday, Oct. 24)
