Women's Swimming & Diving Travels To Purdue & IUPUI This Weekend

PISCATAWAY, N.J. -- Rutgers women's swimming and diving is off to Indiana for two dual meets, including its first Big Ten competition.
The Scarlet Knights will meet Purdue on Friday, Oct. 29 and take on IUPUI on Saturday, Oct. 30.

| LAST TIME IN THE WATER |
- The Scarlet Knights picked up 11 event wins, three pool records and posted one of the top times in the country in the 200 freestyle in a 143-96 victory at Army West Point on Oct. 7.
- Against the Black Knights, the 400 medley relay squad reset the Crandall Pool record that was held by the 1976 Olympic team, Abigail Knapton bested both the previous 1M and 3M benchmarks by over 10 points, and Alice Scarabelli posted the sixth-fastest time in the country in the 200 free.
- Rutgers was back in the pool the next two days getting a feel for championship season with 13 Scarlet Knight swimmers competing at the Colgate Invitational. RU had an early season endurance test and picked up seven victories along the way in their second-place showing swimming against host Colgate, UMass and St. Bonaventure.
- Alice Scarabelli earned four first-place victories in the 100 and 200 free as well with the 400 free and medley relay squads, Sofia Chichaikina collected wins as part of the relay squads in addition to her top time in the 50 free and was the runner-up in the 100 and 200 free, as well as the 100 fly and adding to the event victory total were Cat Salladin in the 500 free and Beatriz Zoppeidossantos in the 100 fly.

- Alice Scarabelli currently has the seventh-best time in the 200 free and 100 back. She hit the wall in 55.25 in the 100 back during the 400 medley relay as part of the winning squad against Army that reset the Black Knights' previous pool record set by the 1976 Olympic team. Her time of 1:49.30 in taking first at Army in the 200 free at the time was the sixth-fastest in the country.
- Two Scarlet Knights are among the top six in the 400 IM. Tina Celik was the runner-up at Army in 4:36.83 and Katie Dougherty placed fourth in 4:39.18.
| DIVER OF THE WEEK |
- After her first appearances on the boards as a Scarlet Knight Abigail Knapton was named Big Ten Diver of the Week on Oct. 13.
- Knapton scored 309.53 on 1M and 333.45 on 3M breaking both the previous Crandall Pool benchmarks by 10.95 points in the season-opening victory at Army.
- The scores also placed Knapton in the Rutgers top 10 with the third-best score in Scarlet Knight history on 1M and fourth all-time on 1M.
- Knapton, who arrived "On The Banks" from Nebraska, earned the fourth Big Ten Diver of the Week distinction of her career.
- She was also the first Scarlet Knight diver to earn the honor since Addison Walkowiak in 2017.
| OPEN WATER |
- Cat Salladin took seventh at the women's CSCAA Open Water National Championship on Sept. 17. A former member of the USA World Championship Open Water Team, Salladin was one of 70 women's distance swimmers competing in the 5K course and one of four members of the Big Ten to finish among the top 10.
- The Scarlet Knight completed the course in 1:04.45.70 and was 12.10 off reaching the top five and earning an invite to the USA Swimming 5K Open Water Championships.

- Rutgers women's swimming and diving has earned 15-straight College Swimming Coaches Association of America Scholar All-American Team Awards.
- The Scarlet Knights boasted a 3.73 GPA last spring marking the 18th-best GPA among Division I women's swimming programs and second-best among Big Ten teams.
- Last season, the Scarlet Knights also boasted 17 Big Ten All-Academic honorees.
