Rutgers & Purdue Both Take Eight Events in B1G Dual Meet

Scarlet Knights Topped 175.5-122.5 in West Lafayette on Friday Night

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Both the Scarlet Knights and Boilermakers collected eight event victories apiece on Friday night at the Morgan J. Burke Aquatic Center. However, it was Purdue's depth that helped the host squad to a 175.5-122.5 win over Rutgers women's swimming and diving in Big Ten action.
 
FROM THE POOL DECK
  • Sofia Chichaikina and Alice Scarabelli each had three victories for the Scarlet Knights. Chichaikina led RU to wins to the 100 free and 200 fly, while Scarabelli swept the backstroke events. Both were key members of tight relays including helping the 400 free relay to the top time in the night's final event.
  • Also earning wins for Rutgers were Giulia Ghidini in the 200 free and Beatriz Zoppeidossantos in the 100 fly along with a 3M victory for Abigail Knapton.
RELAYS
SPRINTS
  • Giulia Ghidini was the top finisher in the 200 free by .09 seconds hitting the wall in 1:52.20.
  • Alice Scarabelli picked up victories in both backstroke events. She posted a time of 54.87 in the 100 back and the top time of 1:59.51 in the 200 back.
  • Sofia Chichaikina added wins in both the 100 free in 51.32 and 200 fly in 2:00.93.
  • Beatriz Zoppeidossantos also collected a win for the Scarlet Knights with the top finish in 100 fly in 55.80.
  • Virginia Menicucci swam to a time of 52.18 to come in second behind Chichaikina in the 100 free and also captured a time of 24.08 for third place in the 50 free.
  • Tina Celik took third in the 200 breast coming in at 2:23.24.
DISTANCE
  • Cat Salladin took second in the 1000 free with a time of 10:25.37 and was third in the 500 free posting a time of 5:07.06.
DIVES
  • Abigail Knapton won 3m totaling 329.85 with 36.90 points ahead of second place.
  • Knapton took second on 1M and was 1.35 points short of taking the top spot in capturing a score of 285.15.
 
KNIGHT NOTES
  • Alice Scarabelli's time of 54.87 in the 100 back is the eighth fastest in Rutgers history and her time of 1:59.51 in the 200 back is the seventh fastest in the Scarlet Knight record books.
  • Sofia Chichaikina's finish of 2:00.93 in the 200 fly is the ninth fastest time at RU.
