PISCATAWAY, N.J. – For the second time this season, Rutgers football punter
Adam Korsak earned Big Ten Co-Special Teams Player of the Week in a Monday release from the conference office. The Scarlet Knights posted a net punt of 47 yards in the one-score win at Illinois and lead the nation with a mark of 46.4 in 2021. In addition, Korsak earned a spot on the
Ray's 8 for the fifth time in 2021.
Â
Korsak downed punts at the 20, 15, 4 and 1 at Memorial Stadium with three attempts of at least 50 yards. The Fighting Illini had no return on each of the six boots.
Â
The Aussie had no touchbacks to extend to 94 consecutive punts out of the end zone dating back to 2019, the longest active streak in the nation. He has settled four at the 1-yard line this season, 12 downed at the 10 or closer and 23 inside the 20. Opponents have had a zero or negative return on 37-of-42 attempts with an average start of their own 19.
Â
Adding power to precision, Korsak has 16 kicks of at least 50 yards with two traveling over 60 yards. His current average of 47.5 yards is on pace to set the single-season school record of 44.4 held by Ryan Anderson (2017).
Â
Korsak is a four-time member of the Ray Guy Award watch list.
Â
This marks the third Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week honor for Rutgers in 2021, with
Aron Cruickshank also claiming the award in September.
Â
Rutgers (4-4) returns home to host Wisconsin (5-3) on Saturday at SHI Stadium. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. on Big Ten Network and the RWJBarnabas Health Rutgers Sports Network. The game is presented by Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey. Tickets are available at ScarletKnights.com.
