Wrestling Rankings Update: Week 1

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – After its 3-0 weekend, Rutgers wrestling is ranked as high as No. 12 in the country heading into the second week of the season. The Scarlet Knights check in at No. 12 by Intermat, No. 15 by FloWrestling and No. 19 in the latest NWCA Coaches Poll.
With the addition of Boone McDermott (HWT) to Intermat's national rankings, RU features nine wrestlers ranked in their respective weight classes. McDermott, who is ranked No. 29 in the country, went 2-0 this past weekend, which included a first period fall against John Kelbly (Cleveland State) and a first-period injury default win against No. 28 Joe Doyle (Binghamton), a 2021 NCAA qualifier.
Three Scarlet Knights – No. 5/4 Sebastian Rivera (141), No. 5/5 John Poznanski (184) and No. 7/8 Jackson Turley (174) – are ranked within the top 10 of their respective weight classes. Poznanski (3-0) and Rivera (2-0) both went undefeated during weekend action, while Turley did not wrestle.
Rutgers swept its quad with Binghamton, Cleveland State and NJCU on Sunday afternoon at Jersey Mike's Arena. The Scarlet Knights won 27 out of 30 individual matchups in front of 3,367 fans – the first home event with spectators in attendance since the 2020 Big Ten Wrestling Championships. The Scarlet Knights heads south to face Clarion, Davidson and UT-Chattanooga on Saturday, Nov. 13 in Davidson, North Carolina. The road quad is slated for a 10 a.m. ET start.
