Volleyball Downed By Michigan

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – It was night two in Michigan for Rutgers volleyball with the host Michigan Wolverines defeating the Scarlet Knights, 3-0 (25-9, 25-10, 25-15) at Cliff Keen Arena.
 
STANDOUT STATS
  • Fifth-year senior Kamila Cieslik, who became the rally-era leader in career appearances, led RU with five kills, while redshirt sophomore Lauren DeLo tied her career-high with 14 assists.
  • Freshman Cara Newell collected a season-high six digs.
KEY MOMENTS
  • Set 1 (9-25) | The Scarlet Knights were unable to overcome a hot-hitting Wolverine squad that opened hitting .667 and committed only three overall errors. After a swing by Tina Grkovic put RU up 2-1 at the start, Michigan logged seven-straight and 12 of the next 13 en route to the set win.
  • Set 2 (10-25) | The Wolverines continued strong hitting and used another early outburst for a 2-0 lead. An Anastasiia Maksimova kill had Rutgers down 5-3 when Michigan scored seven unanswered to widen its lead.
  • Set 3 (15-25) | Kamila Cieslik tied the frame up at 4-4 and Lauren DeLo and Shealyn McNamara teamed up at the net as Rutgers trailed 7-6 early. While Michigan's hitting percentage cooled off significantly, only hitting .088 in the final set, another run managed to widen the margin. The Wolverines outscored RU 10-2 to go ahead 17-7. The Scarlet Knights had a late surge scoring four straight including a solo block by McNamara and an ace from Samantha Graver.
KNIGHT NOTES
  • With her appearance against the Wolverines, Kamila Cieslik played her 139th game as a Scarlet Knight becoming for the rally-era leader in matches played.
  • With a pair of blocks, Shealyn McNamara ties Jasmine Stackhouse (2016) for fourth on the rally-era season leaders list for total blocks with 94. She needs two more to surpass Lauren Cloyd (2016) for third and 12 to move up to second all-time past Mikaela Matthews (2014).
