Lasha Petree led the Scarlet Knights with 15 points

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers women's basketball (3-1) fell to Stony Brook (4-0) by a score of 53-44 on Tuesday afternoon at Jersey Mike's Arena.

Lasha Petree led Rutgers with her first double-digit scoring effort as a Scarlet Knight, netting 15 on three 3-pointers to go with a stuffed stat sheet of three boards, two assists, and three blocks.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The defenses shined early in an 8-7 first quarter after Lasha Petree converted two free throws for the one-point lead after 10 minutes.
  • Rutgers continued its early-season trend of spreading the scoring, as eight different Scarlet Knights contributed to the first-half scoring. Lasha Petree hit a three and Jailyn Mason sunk a floater in the closing minutes of the second quarter to take a 21-19 lead into the locker room as Stony Brook shot 27 percent on the other end.
  • Rutgers started slow with nearly a four-minute scoreless drought to start the second half. The Seawolves took advantage with a 13-4 run in the third.
  • Petree hit a pair of treys to help Rutgers post two scoring runs in the fourth, including a 7-0 run over the final 1:35 of action, but the comeback attempt fell short.

SOUND OFF
Acting Head Coach Timothy Eatman: "We'll give credit where credit is due. Stony Brook played like a veteran team and they played like a team that had just played in the NCAA Tournament. They played hard and ran their plays well, while taking away our lanes. We're still learning how to play together, and we're committed to doing the things we need to do to be a better basketball team."
