RU is number 1 overall seed for NCAA Tournament
PISCATAWAY, N.J. - For the first time in program history, Rutgers field hockey is ranked number one in the nation. The Scarlet Knights moved up to No. 1 in Tuesday's NFHCA national poll following the team capturing the Big Ten Championship. RU received 24 first place votes to vault into the top spot.
The Scarlet Knights earned the No. 1 overall seed in Sunday's NCAA Tournament reveal. The Scarlet Knights will host the First and Second Rounds of the NCAA Tournament this weekend in Piscataway. Rutgers' first game will be at 11 a.m. Friday against the winner of the play-in game between Delaware and Fairfield.
The field hockey program is the first Rutgers' team to earn a No. 1 national ranking since men's lacrosse reached number 1 in 2017. Field hockey is one of two teams, along with the women's soccer program, to earn a No. 1 seed in the upcoming NCAA Tournament.
Rutgers holds an 18-3 overall record on the season, far surpassing the program's previous record of 15, set in 1986. The Scarlet Knights set program records as they earned 12 wins overall against ranked teams and six of them against top-10 teams.
