PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers women's basketball (5-7) looks to start a December winning streak when Central Connecticut State (1-5) comes to Jersey Mike's Arena on Tues., Dec. 14 at 7 p.m. ET. The Scarlet Knights have outrebounded 10 of their 12 opponents this season and continue a homestand in Piscataway, where they are 54-10 (.844) since the beginning of 2017-18.
The Scarlet Knights assisted 18 of their 21 baskets at Penn State, their best percentage since 21-of-22 on opening night vs. St. Peter's. RU followed that up with 24 assists on 30 buckets in the Delaware State win, running its assist percentage to 82 percent over their last two contests.
Ten different Scarlet Knights have tied or led Rutgers in scoring this season, and seven games featured at least 10 players scoring points. With eight returners (three upperclassmen) and eight newcomers, Rutgers entered the new season with 20% of last year's scoring and 11% of last season's assists.
The Rutgers defense has held opponents under their scoring average in 29 of its last 31 games, and 116 of its last 126 dating back to 2017-18.
• Awa Sidibe (15) and Chyna Cornwell (8) both posted career-highs against Delaware State.
• RU has held opponents to 12-of-56 (.214) from three-point range over the last four games.
• Against No. 8 Maryland, Tyia Singleton recorded the second double-double (10pts, 12reb) of her career and the first since the 2020-21 regular-season finale against Ohio State. It was her fifth career game in double-figure scoring and fifth with double-digit rebounds.
• Osh Brown's 20-point, 20-rebound double-double vs. DePaul was Rutgers' first in a game since Betnijah Laney's 24-24 against UNC on Dec. 5, 2014 in a 2OT game (21-20 at the end of regulation). It fell two shy of Brown's career-high of 22 rebounds, set in the 2021 NCAA Tournament last season, a Ball State program record.
• Osh Brown ranks fourth in the Big Ten with her 9.2 rebounds per game.
• Rutgers' highest-scoring quarter has been the fourth in eight of 12 games this season – including 20 apiece against Saint Peter's, South Alabama, and No. 9 Arizona, 15 against Fairfield and Stony Brook, and 25 against Harvard.
• Rutgers ranks 13th in the country in total steals (120) and 17th in total blocks (55).
• Rutgers passed out 21 assists on its 22 field goals in the St. Peter's victory, setting a school modern-era record (since 2001-02) for the highest percentage of field goals assisted (95%).
• In the St. Peter's win, Rutgers forced its most turnovers by an opponent (34) since 38 against Penn State during the 2014-15 season.
• The nation's fourth-best steals per game team last season, Rutgers grabbed 21 steals in the 2021-22 season opener, the most since 22 at Wisconsin in Game 2 last season on Dec. 11, 2020.
