USWNT: Lloyd and Murphy 2021 SheBelievesCup Champions
Feb 26 | Women's Soccer
ORLANDO, FLA. – Former Scarlet Knight standouts Carli Lloyd and Casey Murphy became 2021 SheBelievesCup Champions with the U.S. Women's National Team. The USA clinched its fourth SheBelieves Cup title, becoming the first back-to-back champion in the tournament's six-year history and the first team to not allow a single goal at the competition.
Lloyd, appearing in her 299th match for the USWNT, scored a goal in the championship match, marking her 124th goal with Team USA. With her next appearance, Lloyd will join Kristine Lilly and Christie Pearce Rampone as the only players in USWNT and world history with 300 caps.
Murphy earned her third call up to the senior national team with her spot on the roster for the SheBelieves Cup. Notably, Murphy was the starting goalkeeper for Team USA's U-20 World Cup team that finished fourth in Papua New Guinea. The goalkeeper's previous call ups include a training camp nod in January of 2017 and a set of friendlies in June of 2018 against China PR.
Lloyd and Murphy are both professional players in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) with Sky Blue FC and the North Carolina Courage, respectively. The 2021 NWSL Challenge Cup is set to begin on April 9, 2021.
