From the Field to the Future: Allie Post Charts Sports Career Off The Pitch
Apr 29 | Women's Soccer
For Rutgers student-athletes, career preparation extends far beyond the field. Through Scarlet Knights for Life, a program dedicated to supporting athletes with networking, professional development and career opportunities, many find the guidance they need to shape their futures. For Allie Post, former captain of the Rutgers women's soccer team, that support played a pivotal role in helping her discover a path she's truly passionate about.
"I always knew in some way that I wanted to be working with athletes and athletics," Post said.
As she progressed through her coursework and explored different career options, she began to realize she was searching for a balance between sports and finance.
"I asked myself 'How can I marry my degree with those passions?' That's when I started applying to stuff in sports and wanting to get involved in sports business."
That moment marked a turning point, pushing her to actively pursue opportunities that aligned with both her interests and long-term goals.
Scarlet Knights for Life is dedicated to support student-athletes in networking and professional growth. "Scarlet Knights for Life has been there through so much," she said. "Starting with just the Knight of Networking event that they have, a lot of connections have been made through that specific event."
The program goes far beyond introductions. "They're always thinking of their athletes and giving us opportunities," Post said. "I'll send over my answers to an application or my resume, and they'll be sure to edit it and send it back to me. They're always there for us."
These opportunities and connections at Rutgers also helped Post gain real-world experience on one of the biggest stages in sports. She reflected on her experience working at Super Bowl LIX. "Everyone at Rutgers was so supportive of me doing it," she said.
Through networking and guidance from Scarlet Knights for Life, she found the role on LinkedIn and connected with people who could help her through the application and interview process. In her role as an ambassador for a hospitality brand, she guided VIP guests through the massive event space, escorting them to suites, tailgates, and other experiences. "I was super lucky to be in the stadium and in the suites," she said. "I got to see all these people, like Post Malone. It was insane."
Her athletic background also played a defining role in shaping her career vision, particularly during an ESPN-related women's event. "It was really pivotal for me because I've played soccer my whole life and seeing women who played sports themselves but were now making impacts off the field–that made me realize I could have a career in sports and make an impact for other girls in athletics," Post said. Inspired by women growing in the game, she hopes to contribute to expanding visibility and opportunity in women's leagues.
As Post navigates her post-college career, there have also been opportunities outside the playing and corporate world. Post will appear in the upcoming Netflix film 99ers, which focuses on the 1999 U.S. Women's World Cup team. For Post, it's a combination of sport and acting – an opportunity to utilize her skills on the field with her budding passions off it.
As a former team captain, she carries a leadership philosophy grounded in selflessness. "You have to care more about the people you're leading than yourself," she said as a mindset she plans to carry into any professional setting.
With graduation approaching, Post is keeping her options open. Whether it's pursuing a master's degree abroad while continuing to play soccer or stepping into a professional role, she is focused on continuing to grow. As her time as a Scarlet Knight ends, one thing is certain: her future will keep her close to the game and the community that shaped her.
