PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The initial schedule for the 2021 men's lacrosse campaign was revealed today by the Big Ten Conference. No. 18 Rutgers learned their opponents for the first five games of the season.
2021 SCHEDULE
Week One (February 20): Penn State at Rutgers
Week Two (February 27): Rutgers at Ohio State
Week Three (March 6): Michigan at Rutgers
Week Four (March 13): Rutgers at Maryland
Week Five (March 20): Rutgers at Johns Hopkins
The second half of the Big Ten schedule will be revealed during the season to allow for maximum flexibility in scheduling, with the intention of each team playing five home games and five away games. Television schedules are forthcoming and will be announced at a future point.
The 2021 Big Ten Tournament will include all six conference teams, with the top-2 teams in the standings at the end of the regular season receiving a first round bye. The quarterfinal rounds will be hosted at the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds on Saturday, May 1. The semifinals (May 6) and final (May 8) will be hosted at Penn State.
Including the Scarlet Knights, five of the six programs in the Big Ten are nationally ranked. That group includes No. 2 Maryland, No. 6 Penn State, No. 10 Ohio State, No. 18 Rutgers and No. 20 Johns Hopkins.
Following a shortened season in the spring of 2020, RU has reloaded in hopes to make an impact on the national scene in 2021. A strong group of newcomers to the squad join a talented group of returners for the spring season. That includes graduate transfer Connor Kirst, who was named a Preseason First Team All-American. Returner Kieran Mullins was also named an Honorable Mention All-American by the USILA.
The Scarlet Knights have won 44 games since joining the Big Ten in 2015, including 13 ranked wins. Under Brecht, there have been 12 All-Americans, with 16 student-athletes named Scholar All-Americans over the past six years.
