PISCATAWAY, N.J. –  Rutgers gymnastics senior
Belle Huang and sophomore
Hannah Joyner earned All-Big Ten First Team accolades, the conference announced Wednesday. It marks the second All-Big Ten recognition for each, as well as the first time in program history Rutgers has had two First Team honorees in a single season.

Huang and Joyner have contributed to Rutgers historic achievements this year, including a program-record road score of 195.975 at Minnesota, coming in as the third-highest overall. In the win over Penn State, the pair helped push RU to its fourth-best home score and ninth-best team mark ever for the Scarlet Knights at 195.525. The duo also had a hand in the program's first-ever conference win over Nebraska early this year.

The All-Big Ten honorees have contributed a combined 38 top three event finishes in Big Ten meets this season, highlighted by second and third place all-around performances at the Big Five Meet and 13 total event titles.

Huang has competed in all nine meets for the Scarlet Knights this season, reaching top results of 39.250 in the all-around, 9.900 on beam, and career highs of 9.925 on floor and 9.875 on vault. The team captain is the team leader on floor with a National Qualifying Score (NQS) of 9.875, having reached her career best of 9.925 again this year which is top 10 individual score in program history.

The American Athletic, Inc. (AAI) Award Nominee has recorded 17 top three event finishes in Big Ten meets this season, including five event titles across floor, beam and all-around. It marks the Gaithersburg, Maryland, native's second conference honor, having earned Second Team accolades in 2019.
Huang was also tabbed the Scarlet Knights' Sportsmanship Award honoree.The student-athletes chosen are individuals who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. In addition, the student-athletes must be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.

Joyner has competed in eight meets for the Scarlet Knights in 2021, posting team-leading NQS marks on vault, bars, beam and in the all-around. The sophomore recorded the school record on beam with a 9.950, having reached 9.9 on beam four times this year and 11 times in her career. With career-high 9.900s on floor and vault this year, Joyner became the first gymnast in RU history to eclipse 9.9 on all four events. She is the program leader with 14 total 9.9s in her career.

The Waldorf, Maryland, native also posted a career-best all-around score of 39.450 to help push RU to its highest road score in program history. She has collected eight event titles across vault, bars, beam, floor and all-around in Big Ten meets this season, as well as a total of 21 top three finishes. It marks her second consecutive First Team nod from the league.
