No. 19 Women's Soccer Captures 2-1 Victory over Ohio State

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – No. 19 Rutgers women's soccer (4-1-0, 4-1-0 Big Ten) registered a 2-1 victory over Ohio State (2-1-1,2-1-1) on Sunday afternoon at Yurcak Field. Freshmen Allison Lowrey and Sara Brocious recorded goals for the Scarlet Knights, the first of their careers, while classmate Sam Kroeger added an assist on the gamewinner. In net, junior Meagan McClelland recorded four saves for RU.

THE MATCH
Rutgers and Ohio State both started strong on offense, trading shots and corner kicks to start the game. With about three minutes to go in the first half, the Scarlet Knights would break through and get on the board first.

After freshman Becci Fluchel sent in a perfectly placed corner kick, Lowrey headed in the first attempt. Though the header was blocked, Lowrey took the rebound to send in the goal. The Scarlet Knights carried the 1-0 advantage into the break.

Shortly into the second half, Ohio State balanced the game with a goal in the 48th minute, setting the score at 1-1.

Rutgers quickly reclaimed the lead just minutes later. A one-touch pass from Kroeger, needled through two OSU defenders, set up a stunning goal from Brocious in the 54th minute. The goal gave the Scarlet Knights the 2-1 victory, handing the Buckeyes their first loss of the season.
