ROSEMONT, Ill. – Sophomore goalkeeper
Oren Asher of Rutgers men's soccer has been named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week for a second time this season.

Earning the distinction after opening week on Feb. 24, Asher becomes the first Scarlet Knights to earn multiple Defensive Player of the Week awards from the Big Ten, and the first Scarlet Knight overall to earn multiple weekly conference awards since Jason Wright in 2015.

Asher shut out Maryland in a 2-0 win on Wednesday with four saves, including two diving stops in the second half with Rutgers playing down a man. It was his Big Ten leading third shutout of the season.

He then made eight stops against No. 9 Michigan, all in the second half with Rutgers again down to 10 men. The Wolverines scored the contest's lone goal three minutes into extra time after scoreless regulation.

Along with the Big Ten leading three shutouts, Asher also ranks second in the conference save percentage (.880).

The Scarlet Knights enter their bye week and return to action on Monday, March 15 at noon in a rematch at Penn State. The then-No. 20 Nittany Lions won the first matchup this season in New Jersey, 2-1, on Feb. 23.
