PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Rutgers softball team dropped game one of this weekend's four-game series with the Wisconsin Badgers on a blustery day at the Rutgers Softball Complex. The visitors shut out the Scarlet Knights, 8-0.

- Graduate student Gabrielle Callaway was 1-for-3 on the day while sophomore Ashley Hitchcock and freshman Kayla Bock went 1-for-2.
- Hitchcock got the start inside the circle pitching 5.0 innings, striking out three Badgers, including two looking.
- Sophomore catcher Kiersten Withstandley and graduate student shortstop Kiana Workman managed to throw out two Wisconsin base runners attempting to steal second.
- Wisconsin jumped out to the lead right away as leadoff Peyton Bannon hit a shot over the left-field fence.
- The Badgers added another run in the third off. Megan Donahue flew out to center with Hailey Hoklotubbe managing to get the force at third for the double play, but the fly ball scored Bannon from third to give Wisconsin the 2-0 edge.
- The visitors tacked onto the lead with six runs on five hits in the fifth. Both Christaana Angelopulos and Skylar Sirdashney found their way over the left-field fence for two runs apiece. Donahue also added an RBI single to right center.  Â
- Hoklotubbe has made three double plays from center field this season.
- Withstandley has caught nine base runners stealing to date.

The Scarlet Knights have two chances to return to the win column on Saturday at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. at the Rutgers Softball Complex. Due to COVID-19 safety protocols, fan attendance at the Rutgers Softball Complex is limited to two tickets allotted to each student-athlete.
