PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers wrestling added collegiate transfers Greg Bulsak (Clarion) and Nicholas Raimo (Arizona State) to its 2021-22 roster, head coach Scott Goodale announced today. A New Jersey native and two-time NJSIAA state champion, Raimo will have four years of eligibility for the Scarlet Knights, while Bulsak, a four-time NCAA qualifier, will have one as a graduate transfer.
"Both of these guys are high-quality student-athletes we believe can have an immediate impact for us next season and score points at the national tournament," Goodale said. "Raimo gets an opportunity to return home to compete at the highest level, while Bulsak has proven he can beat some of the best kids in the country. Both add incredible talent to our room and we're excited to have them here at Rutgers."
A four-time NCAA qualifier at Clarion, Bulsak produced a 77-25 career record for the Golden Eagles from 2016-21. Bulsak finished this past season with a 12-3 record – including nine wins by fall – competing at 197 pounds and was the No. 14 seed at NCAAs this March in St. Louis. Bulsak was ranked as high as No. 8 in the country last season by FloWrestling and delivered the program's first-ever MAC individual title during the 2020 campaign.
Raimo spent the past two seasons at Arizona State competing at 133 pounds and wrestled this past season in ASU's dual victory over Northern Iowa. An East Hanover, New Jersey, native, Raimo was a two-time NSJIAA state champion and three-time state finalist at Hanover Park High School, where he finished his scholastic career with a 132-5 record. Raimo was also a four-time Fargo champion, earning national titles in both freestyle and Greco.
Rutgers closed the 2021 season with three All-Americans in the same year for the first time in program history, as Sebastian Rivera (fourth), John Poznanski (fourth) and Jackson Turley (eighth) all earned All-America honors at the 2021 NCAA Championships in St. Louis. Along with two-time NCAA qualifiers Michael VanBrill (149) and Billy Janzer (197), RU produced 13 victories at nationals en route to a 13th-place finish with 37.5 team points.
