Joyner Advances to NCAA Nationals on Beam

MORGANTOWN, W. VA. – Rutgers gymnastics sophomore Hannah Joyner advanced to NCAA Nationals in beam. Joyner finished second in the event at the Morgantown Regional with a score of 9.925, qualifying as the highest individual finisher not on an advancing team.

Joyner, the school record holder in the event, became the first Scarlet Knight to post above a 9.9 at an NCAA Regional. She eclipsed 9.9 on beam for the sixth time this year and 13th time in her career. The two-time First Team All-Big Ten Selection also reached 9.9 at the Big Ten Championships last month, placing third in the event to help lift her to a third-place finish in the all-around.

In Friday's NCAA Regionals Session I at the Morgantown Regional, Joyner finished third in the all-around among the session's competitors, posting a mark of 39.325. The sophomore opened the meet with a strong 9.750 on vault, going on to add a 9.800 on bars. She followed up with a 9.925 on beam before concluding her outing with a 9.850 on floor.

Joyner becomes the third individual qualifier to advance to Nationals in Rutgers gymnastics history. She joins former Scarlet Knights Courtney Turner (floor) and Alexis Gunzleman (all-around) to qualify for Nationals.

The 2021 NCAA Women's Gymnastics Championships are set for April 16-17 in Forth Worth, Texas.
