What They're Saying About Gymnastics Head Coach Anastasia Candia

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Anastasia Candia was named the ninth head coach in Rutgers gymnastics history on April 23, 2025. Since then, excitement has grown in the Scarlet Knights' community from the program's captains, alumni, and former coaches.

Candia, who served as acting head coach since January, guided the Scarlet Knights to a breakout season, capped by being named the 2025 Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA) Region 3 Head Coach of the Year. The Scarlet Knights enjoyed a record-setting campaign in 2025 as the program earned its first NCAA Championships appearance since 2014. Rutgers clinched the NCAA berth this season with a 196.225 at the Big Ten Championships, the team's best performance at the conference meet since joining the league in 2015.

Having recruited Tasia in 2011 to attend Rutgers as a member of our gymnastics program I saw her outstanding qualities as a gymnast and individual. Even though I retired in 2011 I continued to watch Tasia become an outstanding member of the gymnastics team and then followed her career as a college coach. She is an outstanding technical coach but also has excellent leadership skills which has helped her to become the great coach she is today. I am excited for her and the team in the upcoming seasons.
Chrystal Chollet-Norton - Head Coach 1987 - 2011
Tasia has consistently exemplified the qualities of an outstanding leader. As her former teammate, I witnessed firsthand her commitment not only to personal excellence, but also to the growth and success of those around her. She led by example—motivating, uplifting, and challenging her teammates to reach their fullest potential, both in and out of the gym. Her calm yet relentless drive played a pivotal role in guiding Rutgers Gymnastics to two NCAA Regional appearances—first as an athlete, and later as a coach. I’m truly excited to see how the team continues to thrive and pursue excellence under her leadership.

The dedication Tasia has for gymnastics and Rutgers is unmatched. I’ve had the pleasure of competing along side Tasia and witness her passion as a Scarlet Knight on the mat and now as a phenomenal Coach for the current Rutgers Gymnastics team. She has worked tirelessly to elevate the Rutgers Gymnastics program, contributing to its growth and excellence in countless ways. The future is bright for this team and I can’t wait to see all that lies ahead!
