PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers softball dropped both games of Saturday's doubleheader against Iowa on Saturday at the RU Softball Complex as the Hawkeyes topped the Scarlet Knights, 9-1, in the opener and took game two, 6-2.
Iowa 9, Rutgers 1
- Sophomore Payton Lincavage captured her fourth home run of the season to score the Scarlet Knight run.
- Classmate Ashley Hitchcock opened inside the circle while fellow sophomore Jaden Vickers finished out the final two innings with both combining sending down four batters on strikes.

- The Hawkeyes captured three runs in the first, third and fourth off of six total hits, including two home runs.
- Kalena Burns had a three-run shot to left-center in the first. She also got the scoring going in the third with the first run of the inning off her sacrifice fly, while Nia Carter drove in two runs on a double. The fourth inning saw Denali Loecker connect on a three-run blast to left-center.
- Rutgers tallied its run in the bottom of the fifth with Lincavage reaching over the left-field wall to extend her hit streak to seven.
Iowa 6, Rutgers 2
- Sophomore Payton Lincavage continued her hitting streak going 1-for-3 with an RBI.
- Sophomore Taylor Lane and fifth-year senior Hailey Hoklotubbe were responsible for both Scarlet Knight runs.
- Graduate student Izzy Berouty made her second start of the series and second-year Scarlet Knight Ashley Hitchcock threw the final 3.2 innings logging a trio of strikeouts.
- Â Iowa took a 3-0 lead after two innings of play. Kalena Burns was once again the Hawkeye to put Iowa onto the scoreboard with an RBI single in the first while a Aralee Bogar sacrifice fly and Brylee Klosterman drove in a run on a single to left-center in the second.
- Rutgers cut its deficit to a run in the bottom of the third. Hoklotubbe reached on an error at third and later scored off a Gabrielle Callaway sacrifice fly for RU's first run. At the next at-bat, Lincavage's hitting streak continued with an RBI single to left, reaching safely for the eighth-straight contest.
- The Hawkeyes tacked on two more with their return to the plate. Back-to-back singles by Klosterman and Riley Sheey put Iowa up 5-2.
- Iowa added in an insurance run in the seventh on another Burns home run, this time a solo round trip to center.

Rutgers softball closes out the series with Iowa on Sunday with first pitch slated for 11:30 a.m. Due to COVID-19 safety protocols, fan attendance at the Rutgers Softball Complex is limited to two tickets allotted to each student-athlete.
