KINGSTON SPRINGS, Tenn. – Senior
Christopher Gotterup closed out play at the 2021 NCAA Kingston Springs East Regional on Wednesday at the Golf Club of Tennessee. Gotterup – the first student-athlete from Rutgers men's golf to compete in a NCAA Regional event since 2005 – tied for 20th in the 75-player field with an even 213 (68-74-71) scorecard.
Gotterup finished with the third-lowest three-round scorecard amongst individuals – highlighted by his three-under-par 68 in Monday's opening round. No. 13 Vanderbilt captured the NCAA East Regional title with its 18-under-par 834, while No. 24 Arkansas (-7), No. 26 San Diego State (-5), No. 10 NC State (-3) and No. 3 Clemson (-3) also advanced to the NCAA Championships. Michigan State's James Piot produced a five-under-par 208 to move on to nationals as the top individual in the East Region field.
A three-time All-Big Ten selection and 2020 All-American, Gotterup wrapped up the spring with a tied-for-sixth result at the 2021 Big Ten Championships this past weekend in Carmel, Indiana – highlighted by his tournament-low four-under-par 68 in the final round to secure second-team all-conference recognition. Gotterup also earned first-team laurels last spring and second-team accolades as a sophomore in 2019. The Little Silver, New Jersey, native was named the Big Ten Conference Player of the Year as a junior in 2020 and also collected the league's Les Bolstad Award, given to the lowest conference stroke average that season.
One of the top individuals in the country, Gotterup is currently ranked No. 36 in the latest PGA Tour University rankings. The senior finished the spring with 14 rounds of even or under-par golf and three top-10 individual results, which included his runner-up result at the Schenkel Invitational, his third-place finish at the Rutherford Intercollegiate and his tied-for-sixth performance at the Big Ten Championships. Gotterup was named Big Ten Player of the Week after his second-place finish at the Schenkel Invitational, where he produced a season-low five-under-par 211 (71-69-71).

Rob Shutte, the Scarlet Knights earned its second consecutive top-10 finish at the Big Ten Championships, landed a student-athlete on the All-Big Ten team for the third consecutive season and picked up head-to-head wins over Ohio State and Nebraska at the Big Ten Match Play Championship to open the spring campaign.
